SHIRMINE TAN

Nested within Fernvale, along Sengkang West Way and Fernvale Link lies a child-care center. Out-of-Doors is an exploration of children’s scale and imagination through the boundaries between the outside and inside. Fairytale elements of transition, disguise and surprise were the inspiration for the architectural strategies and elements. The threshold between the outside and inside is constantly changing. A playscape is created where children themselves can navigate and choose between the two worlds in an engaging and inviting way. Such examples are doors hidden in a wall of shelves and entry ways the scale of a child such that only he/she can enter and exit indoors/outdoors.
